Menigamuwa Purana Rajamaha Viharaya

This “Menigamuwa Purana Viharaya” is situated in Kandy district Galagedara election area. This temple was built prominence of the village people who lived in here and the painting belonging to period of Kandy and antiquities. This temple was built in the king II “Wemaladarmasuriya” (c: e 1687-1707) who kingdom the Kandy. But the star of this temple was belonging to period of “Walagamba” (c: a 89-77). According to palm leaf book in “Megamuwa Viharaya” this temple was built in 1676 century. However this temple was built in period on Kandy with time of “Tampeta Viharaya”, shrine room was designed. The “Valivita Sarananakara Sangaraja Himi” was patronage for this temple note in legends.

There are legends for how the “Menigamuwa Viharaya” has this name.in past this area was called as “Ibuledeniya”. Later this area was become “Manik Boowa”. The poem of the palm leaf book in temple of toot note about this. According to poem lots of gems were found in Menigamuwa village. It gave for the king and he was built a statute using it and built the temple. The village the gems was born become “Manik Boowa”, later it become Menigamuwa.

In 1646 century there a “Tampita Viharaya” in this the “Menigamuwa Viharaya”. There was a temple before this temple note in legend. The “Valivita Sarananakara Sangaraja Himi” was dispensation of Buddhist, in that reason there are many lands gave people. The main architectural part of this temple is the “Tampita Viharaya”. There stone towers was built in natural floor. There are no any stereotyped shapes for these stone towers. On that stone towers adding corridor wood with place the wooden towers included clay cements. There is a veranda for circumambulate around the temple. The ceiling of the joss house and the veranda was made by wooden cover.

There is a samadhi statue in this temple. There are two idols in the double sided. The idol is the god “Vishnu” and the “Dadimunda”. There are six idols is in the double sides. There are paintings belonging to period of Kandy in the outside and the inside of the repository domestic. There “Jathakakatha”, “Suvesivewaranaya” and”Sathsatiya” draw In here. The lotus design, ‘Binara’ flower, elephant figure , bo leaves and Sapumala pattern in period of Kandy. The door lid is in the repository domestic design pattern of “Narilatha”. There are stories about “Suwarna karkataka” , “Sasa” and “Wessanthara Jathakaya” painted in here.

The Bodhi tree also in the “Menigamuwa Viharaya” is the special place. According to “Menigamuwa Viharaya” this bodhi tree was plant 1666 century. Later this bodhi tree was chip. The cremation of the bodhi tree there are a clay bowl which brought bodhi tree. there are rings, bangles was found in this bowl. Without these there are many plum leaf books belonging to period of Kandy has this temple. There are plum leaf book with gold /></a> coated within Burmese characters.</p>
