Description

An old bodhi and a stupa which has been built in the middle of 20th century can be seen before reaching the vihara site. Although it is said that there was a preaching hall, which was not fully constructed at the former part of the century, now it is invisible.1 Peasants and the Venarable Nayaka Thero, say that the both constructions are belonged to Thalgahagoda Rajamaha Vihara. The vihara premises are in a land of sloppy and hilly. So, there is a hard informal way to climb which by keeping rough-stones together. Also in some parts there are steps made by digging and cutting the natural rock. One side of the vihara boundary is edged by a canal. The premises are consisted of two cave temples (len-vihara), a preaching hall and hermitage (avasage). At first the preaching hall is visible when reaching the vihara. It is a rectangle in shape. Around it there are 16 circular pillars and the archly walls in the middle part. The roof is supported by those pillars and the wall at the mid-part.

Things to See

Inside the cave are recumbent Buddha image, two standing images and a sedent Buddha image. There is an evidence that the standing image is sculptured in stone and when it was at outside. Later, it has been plastered and painted taken in to the (about at 1950) len-vihara
