                               There are many temples in Kurunagala district. Among them this “Colabagama Meugunarama Rajamaha Viharaya” is situated in Kurunagala district Dewamadi Paththuwe Angamuwa canton in Wariyapola near the Paduwasnuwara. When enter this temple you should go in Wariyapola-Halawatha road and turn left side and go 2 mailes in Hammaliya junction.

                         Judge the historical background of this temple it was belonging to 3rd century. There are factors about inscription with Brahma character. In the inscription and Palmyra-umbrella is noting this area as “Heriguna”. But now it is use as “Meugunarama”. There are inscriptions belonging to in 3rd century and 1st century. There are three monasteries. There are old shrine, new shrine and ‘Tampita Viharaya’. There is a ruins of ‘asanaghara ‘ belonging to 3rd century ,the ruins of a old shrine belonging to 7th century and the ruins of the old shrine room belonging to 13th century. The ‘Tampita Viharaya’ was belonging to 18th century. its protected in department of archaeology. Under new shrine there are shrine room, bodhi tree, chapter house, ’Darma Sahlawa’, monastery, promenade and complete  buildings are built in here.  As well as old caion is reconstruction. In that reconstructions they found 10 bronze statues and it is layup in library. And also there are hundred plum leaf books are in this library.

 

                        This “Colabagama Meugunarama Rajamaha Viharaya” has lots of valuable antiquities. Among them there is a sedan belonging to 19th century. And also there are colorful roof cloth belonging to period of Kandy, ‘Sarwala Redi’ and a grant about a land with the Senkadagala royal seal. There is an old monastery belonging in 1892 in this area.
